It’s a unique initiative launched by the Estonian government in 2014, allowing non-Estonians to access Estonian government services digitally. Key Features of Estonia’s e-Residency Program:

1. Digital ID Card: e-Residents receive a digital ID card that allows them to sign documents, encrypt files, and authenticate their identity securely online. However, this ID card doesn’t serve as a travel document or provide physical residency or citizenship rights.

2. Business Management: The program is particularly popular among entrepreneurs and digital nomads. e-Residents can start, manage, and run an EU-based company entirely online, with access to Estonian business services, including banking, payment processing, and accounting.

3. Taxation Benefits: Estonian companies are subject to Estonia's tax laws, which can be advantageous depending on the business’s structure and operation.

Important Considerations:

• No Citizenship or Physical Residency: e-Residency does not grant physical residency, citizenship, or entry rights to Estonia or the Schengen Area.

• Banking and Compliance: Opening an Estonian bank account as an e-Resident may require additional steps or a visit to Estonia. Many e-Residents also use fintech solutions like Wise or PayPal for payment processing.
